Released on October 27, Android users were greeted with the release of Xbox Smart Glass controls! With this app you can connect your Android devices to you 360 and control some functions on your games and other console apps.

Just install it and add your XBL account info.

If your console on it will connect and state that you are on with Smart Glass. You can swipe between your screens looking at your social page to your games and apps. You can even use your Android device as a keyboard in many games in case you don’t have the Chatpad.

A good start but the politics of Google and Microsoft has made a stink, yet again. This app works great for my phone (HTC Vivid running Ice Cream Sandwich) but bit won’t install on my Nexus 7 running Jelly Bean. I’m willing to give the benefit of the the doubt and chalk it up to not being compatible in a tablet environment or not yet developed for Jelly Bean, but it would be hard pressed to find that it isn’t MS taking a stance against Google’s flagship tablet. Also, as of this article, there is no iOS version either.

A few months back I mentioned a website, Fitocracy, that you can use to track your workouts then unlock achievements and conquer quests. Well I’ve found a new way to repurpose my old WiiFit Balance Board to help me with my workouts. My new Nexus 7 has been the crux of many things in my life since July. Pairing my WiiFit board with my tablet, via Bluetooth, allows me to track my weight with one of the most accurate scales on the planet. How did I do it? Check out Wii Scale on Google Play Store.

I started using this app almost 2 years ago.  It’s a shame that Google Health went away earlier in they year.  Their API was a built in feature with the core app.  Fear not, there is an extension now that will connect you up!  But first the basic functionality…

This app is pretty straight forward.  You turn it on, sync your board to the app and hop on.  Similar to the Quick Track option on WiiFit, it will also track your Center Of Balance (COB).  If you are a RunKeeper user, you can purchase Wii Scale Extension for a mere $1.00!  It will send your stats over to your RunKeeper account for a seamless and worry-free way to push yourself to a better you!

I am going write in the exact opposite direction my title suggests.

Yesterday I walked into the Game Stop in Gaylord (not my proudest moment because I am not a huge fan of Game Stop) but I wanted to get XCOM for ps3 and didn’t want to wait for it to come in the mail. While I was walking around I decided to take a shot and ask if they were still taking pre-orders for the Wii U. I know the Wii U is sold out of pre-orders all over but let me explain my rationale.

Remember late last year when Zelda Skyward Sword came out fo the Wii? Well they had a limited edition bundle with a golden Wii remote with the triforce symbol on it that included wii motion plus. It was sold out all over and I stopped at every single store in Midland that might have a video game section. Nobody had it. So I call my mom to complain and she happens to be at a wal-mart in northern MI. A few minutes after we had ended our call I saw her calling me back. She had walked into the video game section and sure enough found a copy of the limited edition bundle!

Fast forward to yesterday. I was thinking that perhaps nobody up north was interested in the Wii U and I might luck out and get a pre-order. That was not the case, but apparently Game Stops are taking names for a pre-order wait-list.  The more people on the wait-list the higher the likelihood they will get some more consoles in before Christmas. So shamefully I caved in and signed up for the power up rewards card they shove down your throat so I could get on the wait-list.

I then purchased a “new” (of course our friends at GameStop took the plastic wrap off) copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown for PS3. In case you have not already heard about the game it’s a remake of sorts of an old PC game by the same name. It’s a turn-based strategy RPG that takes place in an alien world.  You are in control of an army defending the earth against alien forces. I can’t say much else about it because I have yet to play it but it’s safe to say this will be my next “Skyrim” 🙂

XBL has some great games on sale for October.  Both of the games on the poll are $9.99 so price isn’t a factor.  Amy almost made the list but almost all the reviews said is was contender for Worst Game of The Year!  Vote below and help round out my library!

Happy Wars is out of Beta!

Last week, Happy Wars went out of beta. Unfortunately, for those of us that were beta testing, everyone lost out on all of their saves and custom work for their characters! This was noticed when the “demo” app stopped working. Headed back to check the Arcade listing and it was a full fledged XBLA game now. Downloaded it and was greeted with creating a new save. You would think that they would give a leg up on those that helped with all the data for their first, big, free-to-play release? Looks like no. It’s a shame too. It makes me want to not play but the game really is that good!

Dear ToyLogic: Thanks, but no thanks. Now I have to go back and rebuild all of my stats and other customizations. Back to the grind, I guess… 😦 If there are any players out there, set your team name for “GameBlips”. Join us!

Another market trip with the guys

Took a small trip with John and Scott this past weekend. This time we made only one stop. This time we went to a new spot called Sweet Lou’s Collectibles.

This place has a whole lot of everything! I was there mainly for G1 Transformers but ended up with a nice surprise and a small letdown.

The owner, Lou (duh…), was more than accomodating with all of his Transformer gear that he’s picked up. All I was able to get through were 3 large boxes with loose bots of all kinds. (Sans any BayFormers, as requested.) One of the boxes had enough Constructicons to build maybe 5 Devastators! Unfortunately, it was such a melange of 1st gen with reissues of 1st gen and 2nd gen Constructicons. Not all of the parts matched up properly for a while. With a little bit of patience, I was able to merge and form 1 whole Devastator! All the guns and other accessories in tow, as well! With all of the Transformers loot, I almost walked away with a reissue of the G1 Devastator and Kup (not Sargent) but due to costs I only took Kup.

Sorry, no pics of the big yellow guy.

The big surprise of the trip was the box of trading cards that I hadn’t seen for almost 20 years!

They were the Masters of Japanese Animation Series 1 cards, showcasing Robot Carnival!

I almost had a full set when I moved out of my parent’s house in 1994 and never thought I would ever get the chance to try to complete the set. Well I got my hopes up too soon. In 1995, my collection left me with a broken set, 5 cards short. Now it’s 2012, I am unfortunately 1 card short now. 😦

Slightly disheartened after going through 12 sealed packs expecting to finally clear my collection. What was I thinking, right? Well maybe someday it will work out!
