Boo! That’s right… I am back from the dead just in time to plan our second annual GameBlips Halloween stream on Twitch. We have an exciting line up this year and I am going to attempt to top the spookiness of Captianerock’s stream of the PT demo.

We have still to confirm the date / time and who from the crew (besides me) will be streaming but we will post as soon as we have final details.

Some of the games in my lineup this year:

7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die

Join me as I try desperately to learn how to craft and survive in 7 Days to Die. Thus far I have made multiple attempts at game play (the game does not hold your hand) and have yet to survive through the night. Come help me out!

Don’t Starve

Don't Starve

I’ll take any excuse to play Don’t Starve. I have a pretty decent strategy down now and have survived a respectable amount of days. Let’s try to take this to the next level.

Minecraft – Homemade Halloween Maps!

Minecraft Halloween

This is what I am truly excited about. I have spent months hand crafting Hunger Games – esque battle maps in the Halloween Theme. Ask anyone… I am pretty damn good at these now. I have three different but exciting maps I am polishing off for this stream. Who will prevail… Alex (technogaja), Fred (chosanjuan / dalum), or Eric (captianerock)?

Until Dawn

Unit Dawn

Yes, I have played through this at least twice now but I am still working my way to that platinum trophy and the mood of Until Dawn fits the theme of this year’s Halloween Stream. Don’t shake that controller!

Let us know what other games you want to see in the comment section below. I will certainly take your input into consideration as we build the final lineup and schedule. See you there!

In case you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks I am here to inform you that the next generation of Pokémon has been released for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console. As in traditional Pokémon fashion they released two games Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Due to my compounding disappointment and lack of enthusiasm for the most recent DS releases, Black and White and Black 2 and White 2, I chose not to pre-order the new copies. However, the collector in me led me to the store on release day where I ultimately purchased both X and Y.

Quite honestly I assumed I would open them up for the Club Nintendo points and spend a few days messing around with one of them before they made their way to their permanent home on one of my shelves next to their ancestors. However, as I started to play Pokémon X I became quickly impressed with the modifications Nintendo made to the game.

I was instantly attracted to the Animal Crossing type elements of purchasing new outfits and changing at the Poke Centers/Marts. I also liked the concept of online play and battles. In addition they allow you to pick a starter Pokémon in the beginning of the game and after you beat the first gym leader you can choose another starter from the professor. You get to choose from the original three, which is refreshing with the plethora of new and unimaginative Pokémon that have been released in the past few generations.

There were a few things I didn’t like. I know people are raving about the different view options but it just confuses me… I miss my top-down view. I feel like I am missing stores or places to visit with the 3rd person perspective. Another thing that frustrates me is the lack of 3D. Quite honestly the game isn’t in 3D at all, with the exception of the battle sequences (which have been greatly improved).

That being said I do not expect this to go permanently to my shelf after the first or second gym leader. I really want to play around with the online functions and see what else the game has to offer. I don’t see myself completing both version but I will most likely get to the end of Pokémon X. I will let you know how my Pokémon Master quest ends.

Lately I have found myself spending a lot of time on my newer handheld consoles (ok so by this I mean 3DS because I have yet to purchase a Vita). I pre-ordered a copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf from Amazon and have played it daily since it arrived. There is something about Animal Crossing that just relaxes me and I genuinely have a good time playing it and collecting all the goodies I can.

I also recently really got into the new Fire Emblem: Awakening on the 3DS and played through it twice. This new love for my handheld consoles inspired me to order 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors and it’s sucessor Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, two games I have wanted to play for a while now.

I will be adding these two games to my ever-growing stack of need-to-play titles like The Last Story, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, The Last of Us (I started this), Pandora’s Tower, and Tomb Raider (I started this as well).

Is anyone else experiencing an overwhelming backlog of really good games? This summer has been so busy but I am determined to start attacking this pile with a vengeance and providing the Gameblips community with some reviews on these great titles 🙂

I don’t have an update yet on Ni No Kuni, although I made significant progress this past weekend and hope to make some more this upcoming weekend. I am just over 20 hours into the game and really enjoying the graphics and familiar elements.

However, I have downloaded a little gem on PSN after playing it a bit on the xbox360 at Dalum’s house. I know I am a little behind the times here but I just started getting into Scott Pilgrim the video game. It’s an awesome side-scrolling beat em up in an old school 8 bit style. It’s got some nice leveling up elements and allows characters to learn new moves as the progress. Its a pretty good price at $9.99 on PSN and an additions $1.99 to unlock Knives.

The first few times I played through with Kim and struggled but as I continued I became a lot better and eventually leveled her up to Level 13. I have now moved on to leveling up Scott since there is a gold trophy waiting for me if I play through the game once as Scott.

Perhaps my favorite part of the game is how the bosses are the 7 evil ex’s from the movie. It’s very entertaining to watch and play. And just like the movie, the music is killer. I just love it and can’t have anything else going on in the background while I am playing because I love the music so much.

So I have been enjoying this game when I have 30 minutes to an hour to kill. I have yet to play the multi-player on PSN but it was a lot of fun on the 360. Overall I think its a great little downloadable game for anyone who is a fan of side scrolling beat em ups or the movie.

p.s. I noticed a trophy for making it through an entire level to the last boss without getting hit. IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE!?!??!!! I need to know if anyone has done this? 🙂

Ladies and Gentleman… my Ni No Kuni Wizard’s Edition has finally arrived (only a week late). So as most of you know, I was very worried at the lack of response from Namco Bandai and Digital River regarding my Wizard’s Edition so I went out and bought a standard edition copy of the game last Thursday. I ended up trading this in to Game On in Midland yesterday for a new copy of Pokemon Black 2.

Back to the Wizard’s Edition… The box was slightly smaller than I was expecting but they had a lot of greatness packed inside! Of course there was a sealed copy of the game with the DLC codes for the Golden familiars but there was also a leather bound copy of the Wizard’s Companion that Oliver carries throughout the game, a Drippy plush, a gold coin, a sealed copy of the soundtrack, and some art prints of the game. I was very impressed with the box design and the contents. With these things SELLING on ebay for $400 dollars I am sure glad mine arrived safe and sound.

Fred has been trying to convince me to write out my “first impressions” of Ni No Kuni but I feel I have not played enough yet to give an educated opinion. I will say the game is beautiful and it transitions seamlessly from cut scene to game play. I have to say the game is really difficult (I am playing on Normal)… some of the boss battles are just impossible for me to complete without dying. The battle system is pretty complex and fast paced. I think with time I will get used to it but for right now it can be frustrating for me. This hardly impacts my enjoyment of the game though… I just love these kind of RPGs and look forward to giving my impressions/review as I progress in the story.

First off, I am happy for anyone out there enjoying Ni No Kuni right now but I have to share my horrible experience with the Wizard’s Edition pre-order. Despite pre-ordering my copy in August 2012 for $100 dollars I have yet to receive any sort of communication from Namco Bandai regarding it’s status or shipment. Recall this special edition could only be ordered via their website.

Luckily I had saved the e-mail from when I placed the order so I was able to log in and see that my order still existed (I have read in forums and on Facebook that many others had their orders randomly cancelled on them). I even see a hold in my checking account for the purchase price but no communication from Namco or Digital River, who is supposed to be handling the shipments.

The Ni No Kuni Facebook page has exploded with angry people waiting on their Wizards Edition and then imagine my frustation when I see Namco Bandai tweet that they are making more editions available on their website! They should be taking care of the people who ordered and paid for day 1 shipping before they release more copies.

Needless to say I am a little worried about my order. Check out the thread below for more information.

Anyone else in this boat with me? What have you heard?

Platinum Trophy – Skyrim

I know I have posted previously about Skyrim so I promise to keep this short! I have finally, after hundreds of hours of completing quests, gained all of the trophies in Skyrim for PS3. I have, in the past, played games to completion but none with a shiny platinum trophy waiting for me at the end. While I LOVE having that trophy stare back at me when I log in to my profile it was a painful process of running quests and watching loading screens.

My least favorite set of achievements to obtain were the thieves guild, which I thought would be fun because I was having a good time playing as a stealthy wood elf. It was hours of running simple pickpocketing and bedlam jobs until I had completed at least 5 in each of the major cities. It was so painful that I almost stopped playing afterwards but I eventually picked up the controller and completed the Dark Brotherhood quests, which were much more enjoyable.

I might never pick up Skyrim again because I am so burnt out on it but I did pop in LOTR: War in the North to start my second play through. This Platinum trophy thing could get addicting!

Recent Game Pick Ups

I have been purchasing games at an alarming rate for someone technically unemployed but I thought I would share what I have been picking up recently.

As you probably know from my last post Steam just had a huge summer sale and I was all over it. The sale is over and I ended up with Limbo, Trine 2, Half Life 2 (+episode 1 and episode 2), Two Worlds II, and Dear Esther.

In addition to my recent steam purchases I have also pre-ordered That Game Company’s Journey/Flower/Flow collectors bundle. The pre-order price on Amazon is $29.96 right now, which is a deal considering the box comes with all three games and their soundtracks as well as some extra Journey perks for your PS3. Another tempting pre-order that I have been pondering over is the Rachet & Clank collection on PS3, which is also at $29.96 for pre-order on Amazon. As I write this Amazon is also featuring the collectors edition of Final Fantasy XIII-2 for $34.99, ok I had to pick it up for that price 🙂

Finally I made a trip over to Game On in Midland and picked up Kid Icarus for the 3DS, which I have been wanting for a while. I am not very far in but expect a review once I have had some time to play. I also snagged a boxed copy of Pokemon Pinball for the Gameboy Color.

As a final note anyone with a Steam account should add me so we can play some multi-player! My name on there is lekaramae 🙂
